Valencia. Würtz Schmidt takes over the white jersey from teammate Tanfield

Our youngsters seem to like the color white at this year's Tour of Valencia. After Harry Tanfield raced yesterday in the opening time trial into the white jersey, teammate Mads Würtz Schmidt took over the lead in the best young rider classification. The Danish rider finished safely in the first group, while Matteo Trentin (Mitchelton-Scott) took the victory, beating Nacer Bouhanni (Cofidis) and Ben Swift (Team Sky) to the line in Alicante on stage two (166 km).

For Würtz Schmidt it’s after a difficult winter training period (knee injury) balm on the soul: „Everybody expected a sprint finish today, but for sure it wasn’t the easiest sprint stage i’ve done. It’s always nice to wear a leaders jersey. It’s a small result, but it means the world to me after my difficult winter period.“

The Tour of Valencia continues on Friday with a 191km mid-mountain stage from Quart de Poblet to Chera.
