Strong teamwork saw Team KATUSHA ALPECIN take 3rd place after the short and sharp 14 kilometre Team Time Trial at the Tour of Britain. The team rolled out over 7 kilometres of rolling roads, which at that point the parcours tilted upwards, with a hilltop finish in Whinlatter.
Directeur Sportif Torsten Schmidt was proud of the way the team rode today: It was a very nice fight from the guys today from the start to the finish. We were very close to the win. Everyone gave their best and we left some big names behind us.
The team tactics included losing two riders as the road pitched up the hill, to finish with the required 4 over the line.
Tony Martin finished with the front four, driving the team over the line: Today was a really special TTT it was uphill for the last 6k, I've never done this before. We knew we had a really strong team here, and we had a really good tactic- we sacrificed two guys on the flat part. At the end, yes we were struggling a bit to get our fourth rider to the finish, so we lost a little time, but the team was working really well. I think we can be happy with our performance. The goal was the podium and we have it.
Our next big TTT is the world championships.
Looking forward to worlds, this is a good sign. We can build up now. Tony added in, before settling back down on the bus for the transfer back to the hotel, and to recover for tomorrow's hilly stage.
